Sheila Tendy

Sheila Tendy is a native New Yorker and founder of Tendy Law Office, where she acts as outside general counsel to corporations, not-for-profits, and financial institutions. Her practice includes civil litigation, operational risk, bank regulatory and corporate compliance, monitorships, independent investigations, and white-collar defense. A former prosecutor with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, Ms. Tendy later served as counsel to the New York Department of Financial Services. She also brings business experience from the equities divisions of global financial institutions including S.G. Warburg and Deutsche Bank.

Ms. Tendy is active in civic, charitable, and bar association service. In addition to serving as President of IABANY, Ms. Tendy serves as President of the Riot Relief Fund, a nonprofit that provides immediate financial assistance to families of slain NYPD police officers and FDNY firefighters. Ms. Tendy also serves on the New York City Bar Association’s Task Force for the Independence of Lawyers and the Judiciary. She is the recipient of the New York City Bar Association’s Jeremy G. Epstein Award for Outstanding Pro Bono Service and IABANY’s Wild Goose Award.

Among her many high-profile cases, Ms. Tendy was featured in the Netflix series Bad Vegan for her groundbreaking use of an intimate partner coercive control defense in the white-collar defense of Sarma Melngailis, owner of the world-famous vegan restaurant Pure Food and Wine.
